America, it’s time to move on.
It’s time to remember without having to re-live.
It’s time for hollywood to stop making profit from tragedy.
It’s time for George Bush to stop making excuses.
It’s time for 9/11 to be my Grandfather’s birthday again.
Happy birthday, Grandpa.

We just finished watching the HBO series Band of Brothers. We were getting them on DVD from Netflix and we just got our final installment which is a bonus disc that contains a documentary about the real heroes who were portrayed in the show. The creators did such a good job of matching up the actors with their real-life personas that I easily recognized the aging Major Winters and the now white-haired Sgt. William Guarnere (Gonorrhea) even before they put their titles up. For the most part I’m kinda ambivalent about getting old, but occasionally I see really old people and I fear my mortality and wonder what kind of old man I’m going to be. Here were these guys with leathery faces and their thick glasses on crooked telling these amazing stories and I found myself so fascinated by them. These old men were more interesting and engaging to me than the young, handsome actors who played them in the series. I found myself studying the lines in their faces looking for a little of myself in there and I realized that being old is not something that just happens to you, but something you earn by doing important things with your life.
